If you're managing production or operational data in Excel and want to track performance trends in Databox, Datasets are the best way to turn your spreadsheets into live, trackable Metrics. Before connecting your file, it's important to ensure your Excel sheet is formatted correctly so the data can be read and visualized accurately.
Once formatted, you can connect your Excel file via Google Drive, OneDrive, or upload it manually then build Custom Metrics from your Dataset.
How to Format Your Excel File for Databox
Include a Date Column
Make sure the date format is consistent (e.g., YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY).
Each row should represent one date entry.
Use Numeric Columns for Metrics
Ensure number-based columns (e.g., Units Sold, Production Hours) are formatted as numbers in Excel.
Add Dimension Columns (Optional)
If you want to break down data (e.g., Units Sold by Location), include a separate column for the Dimension (e.g., Location).
How to Connect and Create Metrics
Upload your file via Google Drive, OneDrive, or as a manual upload.
After connecting, create a new Dataset.
Choose the tab of your Excel file.
Preview your data, then click Continue.
Once the Dataset is created, you can start building Custom Metrics.
Use fields like Sum of Units Produced or Avg Output per Day to track production KPIs.
Using Datasets with Excel gives you full control over how your production data is visualized and analyzed. You can apply filters, segment by Dimensions like location or shift, and combine data sources for deeper insights.
