How to create a multi-dimension report

In Databox, it is currently not possible to create metrics with multiple dimensions like Sessions by Page by Channel. However, you can use Metric Builder to build multiple custom metrics and visualize them in a Table with multiple columns.

For example, a customer wants to track Sessions by Page by Channel from Google Analytics 4. Here are the steps on how to set up the report:

1. Determine what dimension returns fewer results

The first thing to determine is what dimension has a shorter list of results. In this example, the Page dimension can contain hundreds of pages, while the Channel dimension contains only 7. This means that we'll create 7 custom metrics and visualize them as columns, whereas the pages will be visualized as rows. This will make it easier to scroll through all pages while keeping a clear overview of all channels as columns.

2. Create custom metrics

Next, you'll want to create custom metrics with filters for each of the dimension of the metric that contains fewer dimensions. In our example, Channel returns fewer dimensions so we'll create a custom metric for Sessions by Page with a filter added for each Channel. Each custom metric will filter out a different Channel.

Metric #1 filtering Channel = Organic Search:

Metric #2 filtering Channel = Paid Search:

Continue creating custom metrics for each dimension.

Add the custom metrics to a table

The last step is to add all the custom metrics to a table. For this, select the table visualization from the visualizations list in the top left corner of the designer:

Add all the custom metrics you created to the table and you're good to go!

PRO TIP: The Google Analytics 4 Metric Builder supports selecting multiple dimensions in the Dimensions field and only having to create one custom metric, however, this will return one list of results with the page path and channel merged into one line.
