How to Create Reports That Analyze Year-over-Year Data

At the end of the year, many companies look to evaluate Year-over-Year (YoY) performance across key Metrics. In Databox, you can create Reports or Databoards that compare performance from one year to the next, helping you visualize trends and share insights effectively.

Option 1: Use the "Compare With" setting

To directly compare your current data to the same time last year:

  1. Add your desired Metric(s) to a Databoard.

  2. On the right side, open the Datablock Editor.

  3. Find the Compare With setting and select:

    • Same Period Last Year to visualize Year-over-Year comparisons.

    • Previous Period to compare to the previous period (e.g. This Week vs Last Week).

This will overlay the two time periods on your chart or display the comparison as a percentage, depending on the visualization you’re using.

Option 2: Use a custom date range and set the Granularity to "Year"

For a broader view of yearly performance across multiple years:

  1. Choose a line or bar chart visualization.

  2. Select a Custom Date Range (e.g., Jan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2024) OR select Since and set it to your desired start date.

  3. In the Datablock Editor, set the Granularity to Year.

This setup is ideal for highlighting trends and fluctuations over time, especially in overview or annual reports.
