Sometimes, duplicate data sources are connected to your Databox account by mistake - especially when multiple team members are setting things up. If one of these is removed without proper review, it can unintentionally cause certain dashboards to stop syncing data.
To avoid losing important data, it’s best to rename duplicate Data Sources before removing them. This makes it easier to track which data source is actively being used and which one is safe to delete.
Steps to Rename a Data Source:
Go to the Data Sources section in Databox.
Locate the duplicate Data Source you want to rename.
Click the Details button next to the data source to open its settings.
Click on Rename (next to the data source name).
Enter a new name that clearly identifies it as a duplicate (e.g., “Duplicate – Data Source A”).
Click Save.
Review if the duplicate is used on any dashboards
Go to the Databoards page and set the view to List.
Hover with your mouse over the icons in the Data sources column to identify if any Databoard uses the duplicated Data Source.
If any important Databoard contains the duplicate Data Source, edit it and replace the metric with the same metric from the original Data Source.
Using distinct names for Data Sources helps ensure that you can confidently remove the unused data source without disrupting any connected dashboards, metrics, or reports.
